Micah’s Backpack April Report

Micah’s Backpack sent home 800 weekend bags and over 4,500 meals in April. Close to 1,700 food items were donated by St. Michael and other groups and individuals in Blacksburg. Micah’s Backpack now has over 100 partners who work with us to provide six meals and snacks for children and youth who are our friends and neighbors. We also received a $2,000 Domestic Hunger Grant from the ELCA. Feel free to get in touch with Jennie at jennie@micahsbackpack.org if you’d like to help out with this community ministry.

Learn, Eat and Serve

About 20 youth from St. Michael and the other churches in the New River Conference went to Roanoke College for a tour, had lunch together and then took part in two service projects. Part of the group sorted books for the Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley and part sorted food for the Interfaith Food Pantry in Blacksburg. It was a wonderful day!

Spring and Summer 2012

“Building for the Future” Luncheon - On Sunday, February 19 at approximately 12:15 PM, middle school and senior high school youth and their parents are invited to a potluck luncheon to discuss ideas for growing and strengthening youth ministry at St. Michael. Seventh Day - Synod Youth Event for 5th and 6th Graders - Mar 3-4
All 5th and 6th graders are invited to take part in Seventh Day a one Synod Youth Retreat.

Conference Youth Service Project and Roanoke College Tour - Saturday, March 10 -
The Youth of the New River Conference will meet on Saturday, March 10 for a service project and a tour of Roanoke College. In the morning, we will work together to help a local ministry and in the afternoon, we will travel to Salem for lunch and a tour of Roanoke College.

Confirmation Mini-Retreat - Sunday, March 18 from 3 PM - 6 PM
Retreat Topic: Talking about Faith

Vacation Bible School - Sunday, June 10 - Thursday, June 14
Youth in grades 6 through 12 are encouraged to help out with VBS

Confirmation Camp - Sunday, June 17 - June 23
For any confirmation student who has finished 7th Grade and has not yet attended

Middle School Mission Trip (6th, 7th and 8th Grade) - July 29 - August 3
Youth from St. Michael will travel to Virginia Beach for a week of service, learning and fun. We will experience a homelessness walk, glean food for a food pantry and undertake a series of projects to help people in need.
